A few blog posts back I blew my stack on how people were overly dumbing down the Linux desktop. I didn't post HOW to address the problems, as that would have diluted the venom....
Today on my rss newsreader I noticed a pair of well written HOWTOs posted on how to use synergy to control multiple machines from one keyboard and mouse - and how to use ssh to connect to other machines and transfer files- two of the issues I'd mentioned, in passing, in that rant.
Coincidence? Meme transmittal on some sub-layer one of the TCP/ip protocol? My own Truman moment?
Synergy2 is nice stuff. I wish I could get it or x2x working right on my nokia 770. I guess I'll look into it.
As for the ssh article, to me it's kind of sad that advanced filesharing protocols like NFS and CIFS are now so hard to use that ssh has become the lowest common denominator for this sort of work - but at the same time ssh works so well for both in-office and web server work-in-far-far-far-away that I'm pleased to see stuff written about it.
If more people had this john perry barlow moment, it would be a better world:
Speaking of a better world... Somehow, I doubt fox news is listening to my call for fairness in the presidential debates and improving the polling systems but here's hoping Sunday's Republican debate is better than the last one.
I think a big bit of venting on css, websites, scrollbars, and big screens is in order for tomorrow.
